Brian Samuels began his secondary education at Syracuse University where he studied film production at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
In 2004, Brian transferred to Emerson College to continue studying film production. Based on his proposal to direct a 30-minute documentary, he was accepted into the B.F.A. program and his project was financed. A year later, Louder Than Words, was finished and nominated for Best Documentary at the 2006 EVVY Awards. Shortly thereafter, the film was accepted to screen at the 10th Annual LA International Short Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA.
In only a few years, Brian has managed to find work in a number of different fields within the film industry. In 2003, Brian began working for Magnolia Pictures, an independent film distribution company based in New York. During his time at Magnolia, Brian worked on such critically acclaimed and Academy Award nominated films as Control Room, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, The World’s Fastest Indian, Bukowski: Born Into This, and Nine Lives.
In 2006, Brian began working for Finish Editorial, a Boston-based postproduction house. Here he worked on Avid editing systems, Final Cut Pro, and began to learn new programs, including the 3D animation software, Cinema 4D.
More recently, Brian started working for Boston based documentary production company, Northern Light Productions, as an associate producer.
Brian also continues to work as a freelance editor in Boston. His most recent project, Karma (directed by Chris Swank), was accepted to screen at the Short Film Corner at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
